Post-game Audio

This was the third match up between WSU and UMES; the first two games were in January of 1987 during WSU's first year of Division 1 basketball. The teams won on their home courts in games played 12 days apart.

The Hawks were likely trying to shake off some major rust having not played since a win over Navy on December 9. The Raiders of course were trying to get past the taste of two straight losses.

Todd Brown got back to form with 16 points and 3 assists. Cooper Land added 14 while Scott Grote rounded out the double figures scorers for WSU with 11. Scott also ripped down 5 rebounds.

The Hawks only had one double figure scorer in Kevin White with 16 - 11 of those in the first half.

The Raider bench contributed big time tonight with 44 points and 20 rebounds. Paul Darkwa played 12 minutes but grabbed 8 reounds and contributed 5 points in aggressive play including big block late in the first half. Tyler Kock hit three three-pointers in 17 minutes. Darian Cartharn dished 5 assists and chipped in 5 points in 21 minutes of play.

Overall WSU shot 54% from the field (38% from behind the arc) while UMES shot 36%. At the half rebounding was tied at 18 each but WSU dominated the boards in the 2nd period 18-10 (36-28 overall).

The Raiders kept good care of the ball tonight by having only 7 turnovers. UMES committed 20 turnovers; WSU scored 31 points on those turnovers.

Next up for WSU is Arkansas-Little Rock Tuesday night in the Nutter Center at 7pm and then Sam Houston State on December 28 at home at 7pm.
