By Mike Klingshirn
Indianapolis, IN - While in the press room of Hinkle Fieldhouse last Saturday, a fellow at the table noticed my RaiderRoundball.com shirt and asked if I knew Alex Kock.

"Of course," I said! I then proceeded to get to know Rick Reeves, uncle of former Wright State basketball player, Alex Kock. You may remember that Alex joined the Raiders as a walk-on, playing for Paul Biancardi's first WSU team, during the 2003-04 campaign. Kock averaged 7.2 points per game in 27 contests as a freshman.

Following his freshman season at WSU, Alex transferred to Huntington University, where the NAIA named him Division II Player of the Year in 2007. As a senior, he led his team with 23.4 points and 10 rebounds per game.

Mr. Reeves said that Alex signed to play professional basketball for a team in Europe, but when things didn't work out after a few weeks, Kock came back home. Upon his return, Alex began teaching and coaching a junior varsity team at Huntington North.

Earlier, Alex had applied to the Secret Service. He got word of his selection in October and had two weeks to report for duty. His teaching and coaching career ended abruptly for a job with the US Secret Service. He has been an agent just about 5 months now but has been off duty for a couple months after blowing out his knee in a basketball game with fellow agents.

One of Alex's duties was among other things, guarding President Obama's house in Chicago.

Small world indeed.
