"We had a terrific crowd," said Wright State head coach Brad Brownell. "It gave our guys a little extra momentum. The place looks great when it's got over 7,000 people in it. We were close to 8 (thousand) tonight. It brings a little added energy to the team. Guys feed off of that, especially when we're playing defense."

Wright State was led in scoring by Vaughn Duggins' 20 points, on 8-of-11 shooting. N'Gai Evans added 18, and Todd Brown was the third Raider in double figures, tossing in 17.

Scott Grote, picking up the slack for the injured Cooper Land, played his best game in about a month. Grote led the team in rebounding with 6. He also passed the ball well, had 4 points and 2 steals, to go along with an assist.

N'Gai Evans contributed with another all-around superb game. He chipped in with 18 points, hitting 7-of-9 shots from the field, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. Evans also grabbed 5 rebounds, had 3 steals, dished out 4 assists, and committed just 1 turnover in 38 minutes of play.

"I've played with N'Gai for a long time, from the same city," said Wright State senior Todd Brown. "When he's got that ball one-on-one, I don't think that anybody in the league can guard him."

Vaughn Duggins added "In the last five or six games, he's really come on strong. He's been another presence out there. It's hard to beat us when he's playing well."

The Phoenix (17-10, 9-6 HL) were on fire to begin the game. Three different players for Green Bay connected on 4 shots from 3-point land, to quickly put them up 16-7, just four minutes into the game.

WSU weathered the storm. Brownell said "You tell your guys that with the law of averages, they're going to come back to us. We've got to adjust one or two things to make their shots a little more difficult."

From there, the Wright State defense clamped down, holding the Phoenix scoreless over the next eight and a half minutes. The Green and Gold tied the score 16-16 at the 8:46 mark, on a nice fast break, highlighted by a crisp pass from Scott Grote and a lay-up by Vaughn Duggins.

A Cory Cooperwood bucket on s strong drive to the hoop, gave Wright State their first lead 23-21, less than 4 minutes before halftime.

A monstrous slam dunk by Todd Brown, thanks in part to a nice feed from Duggins, with 13 seconds remaining in the half, sent the Green and Gold into the locker room with a 28-27 advantage.

For a while, it looked like Green Bay would have the upper hand at halftime. Wright State regained possession of the ball with 1.2 seconds showing on the clock. The Raiders called time-out to set up another play. Their inbound pass was deflected at mid-court. Troy Cotton picked the ball up and swished a shot from 70 feet, three quarters of the court away from the basket. The referees had initially counted the basket, but upon video review, determined that the shot was taken after time had expired.

Wright State (17-9, 10-5 HL) came out of the locker room strong. N'Gai Evans drained a trey and went up high to tip-in a missed shot, expanding the lead to 33-29, just one minute into the half.

Ahead 38-35, the Raiders used a 7-point run to build a ten point lead at 45-35 with 13:35 to play. The Phoenix closed the gap to with in 5 points at the 8:07 mark, but could get no closer. A good all around performance by the Green and Gold resulted in a 67-54 victory and sole possession of second place in the Horizon League.

"This was a really good performance by our guys, especially the last 30 minutes," said Brad Brownell. "Green Bay was really ready. We left them upon, and had trouble on a couple of things early. I told our guys 'We need to hang in there and keep plugging.' Our guys did a much better job of defending. We played with great energy. We played sound, aggressive basketball."

Green Bay shot a sizzling 7-of-11 (64%) from behind the arc in the first half, but were limited to 2-of-5 from 3-point land in the second stanza.

Wright State scored 29 points off of 17 Green Bay turnovers. Although the Phoenix had more size, the Raiders also outscored Green Bay 26-8 in the paint. "They're bigger than us, but we're faster." said Todd Brown. "We just attacked and finished plays."
