All season long Wright State has been ranked in the top five for best defense in the country. The Raiders put their defense on display again on Saturday night when they defeated Detroit 61-48.

After the game, it was the only thing Titans' head coach Ray McCallum would comment about.

"I think there is a reason why Wright State is the No. 2 defense in the nation," said McCallum. "They help and rotate and communicate well. They are just a well oiled machine on the defensive side of the ball."

Wright State is allowing their opponents to score just over 55 points per game (55.2). In nine if their last 11 games the Raiders have not allowed their opponent to score more than those 55 points. In the national standings Wright State is second, behind only Washington State. The team right behind them in third is league foe Butler, who is allowing 56.5 points per game.

While WSU is only allowing a minimum amount of points to be scored, they are forcing a maximum amount of turnovers.

Against Detroit, the Raider forced the Titans to turn the ball over 22 times, which turned into 21 Raider points.

A while all the defensive statistic may not show up on the stat sheet after the game, Brownell thinks it's the reason why the team has been such a force in recent games.

"We know at times that we have wow offensively, especially when the couple of kids we have out are good offensive players there is more of a chance that we're going to have a wow, so we have to hang our hat on (our defense)," said Brownell. "We really have to do that in order to have a chance to win."
